ABOUT ME

Yu-San Lifestyle 2 - 20201113 - _BJG9056

I moved around a lot as a kid. I'm a second generation immigrant. That meant that my parents had to start their lives all over when they came to Canada. We moved so often that sometimes, it was almost pointless to unpack every single box. We would probably move in less than 12 months. It wasn’t until I was about 15 when my parents were able to buy their first home. The joy and excitement that overtook them, lasted for months. They were so excited to plan out what furniture to buy, and how to decorate the home. We were finally able to unpack!

I now had my own personal space. No more sharing bedrooms, living on top of one another. This. This was home. Watching my parents work so hard to provide and build a better life for my sister and I, was incredible. They expected nothing out of us, in terms of what they wanted us to be when we grew up. They taught us about the value of the dollar, work ethic and how to respect one another. But left us to discover our dream careers.

I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I dabbled in the arts, thinking I might become a musician or an actor one day. But as I worked in those fields, it wasn’t something that felt “right” anymore. What I liked most about the arts was creating a connection with another person and telling a story. I just had to find a new way of doing that.

That’s when I was introduced to the world of sales.

I’m not going to lie, the transition from the arts  into sales was a little tricky. When I’m not on stage or performing, I’m an introvert. So how was I going to make this work? An introverted guy, in an extroverted world. I spent months reading self-help books. I listend  to people like Zig Ziglar, Jordan Belfort, and Grant Cardone. I wanted to work towards getting out of my comfort zone and to become the best version of me.

I started out working in retail. That's where I got to meet lots of people, and learn the art of communicating and listening. This allowed me to Style people in amazing outfits, that they felt great in. It was an amazing feeling seeing people’s reactions to the outfits you put them in. I got to see how something so simple as clothes, could drastically change someone's mood. As my social and sale skills grew, so did the job.

I switched over to a more corporate company helping businesses save money. The interactions were a lot less personal, as these sales happened over the phone. But I was still connecting with people. Learning about what’s working for them and what they would need to improve their business. Most importantly, solving their problems! But, there was something I didn’t quite like about the corporate sales culture. I wasn’t working with people as closely as I wanted to be. I wanted to really connect with people, and solve their problems with no added pressure on them.

There was always a need to meet weekly quotas and had answer to someone higher up when you didn’t. There was always someone looking over my shoulders making sure I did whatever it took to close the deals. Even if the businesses wouldn’t benefit from the service/product. I knew I had to make a change. To work for myself where I was in control and could genuinely help people, or find a company that had the same values.

One night I stumbled across the show Million Dollar Listings. I saw Josh Flagg give a tour of a home with such detail. He captured a story of what it would be like to live there and something clicked in that moment.

It brought back memories of when my parents were able to finally call a place home. The joy they had knowing we didn’t have to move in a year. Being able to provide a place for us to grow-up and create memories. I wanted to be able to give that feeling of joy and excitement to others.

Every person, family AND every home, has a story. I realized that I wanted to be the person to listen to those stories. To help move their story forward into their next chapter! The more I looked into this as a career, the more I saw how fulfilling it would be. I was able to Work on your my own terms. Keeping myself accountable to my values and providing the best service to clients.

I couldn’t ask for more, working in Real Estate. I get the chance to still be artsy, creative AND go on a journey with my clients - in one of the biggest moments of their lives. I don’t take it lightly. It’s a big task to do right! A home is more than a place to stay in for a family. It’s the safe space, the ground where roots will be planted and a place where their family’s story will unfold.

Knowing that I can empower my clients with the strategies, knowledge, and the counsel they need to achieve the desires of their hearts... That gives me all the fulfillment I could ever ask for in a career. That’s why I do what I do.
